The Zn(II) complex is colorless, which is a common feature unless accompanied by chromophoric moieties. In this issue of Angew. Chem., Wada et al. report a dinuclear Zn(II) complex bearing two non-chromophoric oligosilyl ligands that exhibits visible light absorption. Their work introduces a strategy for constructing Zn-based complexes capable of responding to visible light and extends the photophysical field of zinc chemistry. We are delighted to be invited to highlight this chemistry.
